Gestión de BeneficiosBenefits Realization Management

De la precisión del modelo al retorno de inversión — y quién lo mide después de que te vasFrom model accuracy to return on investment — and who measures it after you leave

1

In Value Focus you saw the Output→Outcome→Benefit→Value ladder. PMBOK 8 explicitly confirms this concept: "benefits realization occurs by generating and identifying long-term goals" — Benefits Management is the discipline of systematically tracking that ladder, with a formal plan, not just mentioning it once in the Charter.

La Línea de Tiempo: Antes, Durante, DespuésThe Timeline: Before, During, After

La Gestión de Beneficios exige medir en 3 momentos: Mistake #1 in data science: measuring "success" only during the project (does the model run? is recall 75%?). Benefits Management requires measuring at 3 points in time:

📏 Antes (Línea Base)Before (Baseline)

Churn = 5.2%/month, measured before writing a line of code.

🔧 Durante (Salida)During (Output)

Model delivered with 78% recall — still not a benefit, just technical output.

📈 Después (Beneficio Real)After (Real Benefit)

3 meses después del cierre: churn bajó a 3.8% — confirmado por el Benefits Owner.3 months after closing: churn dropped to 3.8% — confirmed by the Benefits Owner.

PMBOK 8's Charter explicitly asks the Sponsor to "ensure the long-term benefits realization" as one of their responsibilities — it's not optional, it's part of their official role (remember the Stakeholders module).

Notice no row has the Data Scientist or PM as "owner" — by the time the real benefit is measured, the project team has already disbanded. That's why defining the Benefits Owner from the Charter is so important: without an owner, nobody measures, and the project never proves its real value.
